FIVE DAYS BEFORE COLONOSCOPY ____________________

*** Pick up your prescription for your prep; this was sent electronically to your pharmacy at the time of your visit with Dr Gottesman

*** Stop Coumadin ( warfarin ), Plavix ( clopidogrel) , Effient ( prasugrel ), and Aggrenox

*** Stop aspirin, Advil/Motin ( ibuprofen ), Aleve ( naproxen ) and most arthritis medication. Celebrex ( celecoxib ) is OK
*** Stop all supplements, vitamin E, fish oil, omega 3, iron, multivitamins

*** If you need to stop an anticoagulant, we will need approval from your cardiologist/ neurologist or hematologist to do so. Some patients may need to use a very short acting anticoagulant, up to one day prior to colonoscopy, to prevent blood clots

*** Tylenol ( acetaminophen) can be used for pain and headache

*** Make a list of all medications you take, and all allergies, including medication and food allergies, you have. You will take this list with you to the endoscopy center.

*** Arrange for a ride to and from the endoscopy center the day of your colonoscopy. You cannot drive for 1 day after colonoscopy



THREE DAYS BEFORE COLONOSCOPY ____________________

*** Stop Xarelto ( rivaroxaban ), Eliquis ( apixaban ), Pradaxa ( dabigatran), and Edoxaban ( savaysa )




TWO DAYS BEFORE COLONOSCOPY ____________________

*** Eat a low fiber diet. Fish, any meat or chicken, pasta, eggs, soy, and all beverages are OK. Avoid all fruit, vegetables, salad, nuts, popcorn, fiber supplements

*** Remove body piercings, to decrease the risk of a burn during colonoscopy



ONE DAY BEFORE COLONOSCOPY____________________

*** Consume clear liquids only, the entire day. You should eat no solid food. Drink at least 8 glasses of water, clear bullion, broth or consommé, Italian ices, popsicles, Jell-O, or clear fruit juices such as white grape juice or apple juice.

*** Do NOT drink any red liquids, or red jello.

*** DO TAKE your usual medications, including blood pressure, heart and anti seizure medications. Remember to avoid blood thinners which need to be stopped 3-5 days before colonoscopy ( see above)

*** DIABETICS: Take 1/2 of the usual morning dose of DIABETES medications, including insulin. Your blood sugar will be a bit high on this day.

*** AT 7:00 PM ( YES. IT MUST BE AT THIS TIME ), take the first half of your prep
Empty one packet A and one packet B into the container provided with the kit. Add water to the "fill line" and shake to dissolve. Do not add any additional flavorings. The container is divided by four marks. Every 15 minutes, drink the solution to the next mark until it is gone. Using a fat straw in the back of the mouth makes this easier. Drink an additional 32 ounces of any clear liquid over the next two hours.



THE DAY OF YOUR COLONOSCOPY ____________________

*** At ____________________ AM (YES. IT MUST BE AT THIS TIME ), take the second half of your prep.
Empty one packet A and one packet B into the container provided with the kit. Add water to the "fill line" and shake to dissolve. Do not add any additional flavorings. The container is divided by four marks. Every 15 minutes, drink the solution to the next mark until it is gone. Using a fat straw in the back of the mouth makes this easier. Drink an additional 32 ounces of any clear liquid over the next two hours.

*** You may continue to consume clear liquids until 3 HOURS PRIOR TO COLONOSCOPY. After that time, do not eat or drink anything except a small amount of liquid to take your daily medications

*** DO TAKE your usual medications, including blood pressure, heart and anti seizure medications. Remember to avoid blood thinners which need to be stopped 3-5 days before colonoscopy ( see above)

*** DIABETICS: Do not take insulin or oral medications this morning. Please bring them with you to the procedure, to take after you have eaten, following your colonoscopy
